'Kurukshetra' Trailer: Netflix's New Animated Series Charts Mahabharata’s Battlefield

'Kurukshetra' will be launched in two parts, each consisting of 9 episodes. Season one of the series premieres on October 10.

Netflix India on Wednesday dropped the trailer of its new animated series Kurukshetra, which delves into the timeless moral dilemmas of the Mahabharata from the perspective of 18 warriors.

The trailer of the saga depicts how the warriors wrestle with the moral dilemmas and fractured familial bonds in the choices they make. "Mahabharat is the tale of a great war when all of Bharat assembled in one place to decide about dharma and karma," legendary poet and lyricist Gulzar's voiceover opens the trailer, as it introduces the warriors with Lord Krishna saying, "This war has no friends or enemies."

"Kurukshetra explores the inner conflicts, personal rivalries, and the heavy toll of India’s greatest dharmayuddh (war of righteousness) that turned family against family. From Arjuna’s agonizing dilemma to Draupadi’s fierce vow for justice; from Duryodhan’s insatiable thirst for power to Bhishma Pitamah’s solemn wisdom," a note from the streamer read.

The show will be launched in two parts, each consisting of nine episodes. Kurukshetra is written and directed by Ujaan Ganguly and brought to life by the team at Hitech Animation. Gulzar has come on board to pen the lyrics. The series is a Tipping Point production, backed by Alok Jain, Anu Sikka, and Ajit Andhare. Season One of the series premieres on October 10.

In a previous statement, Tanya Bami, Series Head, Netflix India, promised Kurukshetra to be a "truly novel take on the Mahabharata," with Sikka hailing the battle of Kurukshetra as an "unforgettable and timeless" saga.

"Through this animated series, we explore the 18 days of Kurukshetra with its distinct perspectives blending eternally timeless wisdom with the power of visual storytelling. We're honoured to bring this layered narrative to life on Netflix, making this epic story accessible to Indian and global audiences in a visually stunning, rich new format," Sikka had said.
