The trailer also included a cheeky reference to AR Murugadoss's own older film 'Thuppakki', starring Vijay.
With 10 days to go for the release of Sivakarthikeyan’s first film with AR Murugadoss's Madharaasi, the team released the trailer late Sunday evening. In terms of plot, the trailer does not reveal much except that it has to do with a shipment of illegally produced weaponry entering the city of Chennai. This entry could be via road or sea, and it appears that the villain character played by Vidyut Jammwal could be the reason why this shipment enters the city. His character is also seen mouthing the lines, “It’s not easy to break into Chennai.”
The sleek trailer is 138 seconds long, and it’s been cut with an intense eye, highlighting the film’s action. Apart from shots featuring the romance between Sivakarthikeyan and Rukmini Vasanth, almost the entire trailer is cut in the mood of an action thriller, without any scope for comedy, Sivakarthikeyan’s forte.
The other highlight of the trailer is the line, “Thuppakki Yevan Kayyila Irunthalum, Villain Naanthaan Da,” which translates to “no matter who holds the gun, I’m going to remain the villain.” Mouthed by Vidyut Jammwal, this dialogue is a meta reference to AR Murugadoss’ superhit Thuppakki (2012) starring Tamil superstar Vijay. Vidyut Jamwal was the villain in that film as well. But apart from this meaning, the dialogue can also be read as a scene that further signals Sivakarthikeyan as a spiritual successor to Vijay. This dialogue reinforces the shot of Vijay passing on the baton (or the Thuppakki) to Sivakarthikeyan, as we saw during the climax of Vijay's Greatest Of All Time (2024).
The film’s music is by Anirudh, and it has been shot by Sudeep Elamon. It will be released on the fifth of September. Last week, filmmaker AR Murugadoss spoke up about the shooting timelines while working with superstar Salman Khan in Sikandar. The director, best known for helming the blockbuster Aamir Khan-starrer Ghajini, opened up about the strange challenge of filming with a star like Salman for his actioner, which bombed at the box office.
