'Mardaani 3' will see Rani Mukerji reprising the role of Shivani Shivaji Roy, who is in a race against time to rescue missing girls.
Actor Rani Mukerji-led franchise Mardaani 3 has locked January 30 as its new release date. Backed by Yash Raj Films, the makers also dropped the film's trailer, which features Mukerji as a cop.
Produced by Aditya Chopra, the film is directed by Abhiraj Minawala and written by Aayush Gupta of The Railway Men fame. Now in its third instalment, Mardaani 3 will see Mukerji reprising the role of a daredevil cop, Shivani Shivaji Roy, who is in a race against time to rescue scores of unaccounted for missing girls.
The third instalment will see Mukerji take on a merciless, evil, powerful woman as the antagonist, played by Mallika Prasad. Janki Bodiwala of Shaitaan and Vash fame also enters the Mardaani franchise. The first film tackled the grim realities of human trafficking, while the sequel explored the chilling mind of a psychotic serial rapist.
Celebrating three decades in Hindi cinema, Mukerji took to Instagram on Monday, and shared a heartfelt note, writing, "To have Mardaani 3 releasing on my 30th year is a sign for me to keep working, doing good work!"
The actor, who made her debut with Raja Ki Aayegi Baaraat in 1996, reflected on the landmark moments and films of her career, including Saathiya, Black, Bunty Aur Babli, No One Killed Jessica, Mardaani and Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway, which earned her a National Award.
Mukerji also spoke about her personal life and added, "Marriage and motherhood changed me, not by slowing me down, but by sharpening my focus. I became more selective, more protective of my energy, and more aware of the kind of legacy I wanted to build and the films that I want to lend my voice to.”
The actor also thanked her fans for their continued love, which she said has enabled her carry on for three decades. "Today, I’m still feeling like a newcomer, wanting to excel, to work harder, to take on new cinematic challenges and write a totally new chapter of my life starting right now. To my fans and audiences who have always rooted for me, stood beside me, and cheered for this girl who has become a woman, I bow down with respect and love. I would not have been here without you. I would have been no one without you.”
