The Malayalam film’s leads, Asif Ali and Aparna Balamurali, were last seen together in last year’s superhit thriller 'Kishkindha Kaandam'
The 80-second teaser of Jeethu Joseph’s Mirage was launched on August 18, and the film leaves us with many unanswered questions, cementing why the Drishyam director is known as the master of suspense. The teaser opens with Asif Ali’s character opening a bank locker and taking out something. We then see Aparna Balamurali opening the same locker to realise that something has gone missing. But when they open the same locker together, not only do they find the missing package, but also a second file that leaves both puzzles. It also suggests that there’s an outsider who is involved in this secretive transaction.
The tagline on Mirage's poster read, "Fades As It Gets Closer", linking the subject to its title. The cinematographer is Satheesh Kurup, with V S Vinayak working as the editor, and Vishnu Shyam on music. The film is produced by Mukesh R Mehta, Jatin M Sethi and C V Sarathi.
Mirage is the sixth collaboration between Ali and Balamurali, who were last seen in Kishkindha Kaandam (2024). Joseph directed Ali in Kooman (2022), which was about a police officer who finds himself drawn to committing crimes. The upcoming thriller also stars Hakim Shahjahan, Hannah Reji Koshy and Sampath.
Mirage is also among the three films of Jeethu Joseph’s that are expected to release soon. Apart from this thriller, he is also working on Valathu Vashathe Kallan with Biju Menon and Joju George. He is also prepping for the high-profile return to the Drishyam franchise with the film’s third part, which will go on floors in October, as recently revealed by the makers.
Jeethu Joseph was supposed to complete the filming of another Mohanlal-starrer, Ram, but that too has been stuck for more than two years owing to the complex logistics of shooting the film in multiple foreign locations.
