Mohanlal shared a video on his social media, marking the conclusion of the final shot.
Actor Mohanlal posted a video on social media as he concluded the shooting of Drishyam 3, the third and final instalment of the successful Malayalam franchise.
In this clip, we see Mohanlal’s iconic character Georgekutty, completing a shot and walking towards the monitor to see if Jeethu Joseph, the film’s director, is happy. When the director says the shot is okay, we see the actor smile, unable to control his joy. Mohanlal has embodied the same character since 2013, when the first film went on to become the highest-grossing Malayalam film ever. The franchise was then remade is several languages across the world, including a hit version in Chinese.
Upon completion, we see the film’s producer Anthony Perumbavoor rushing to embrace Mohanlal as the journey comes to an end. Actor Santhi Mayadevi can be seen on set too, in what appears to be the police headquarters. He goes on to thank every crew member after the shot is done.
In what could set a record of sorts, Drishyam 3 has reportedly closed its pre-release distribution sales at a whopping price of ₹350 crore. This is already ₹50 crore more than the total collection of Kalyani Priyadarshan’s Lokah Chapter One: Chandra, which is the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time. For Drishyam 3 to secure this sum even before the shoot was completed is unprecedented in the box office history of Kerala.
This sum was disclosed by producer M.Ranjith of Rejaputhra Visual Arts on the sidelines of a recent literature festival in Kerala. He had most recently produced Mohanlal’s blockbuster Thudarum.
There were also reports that Panorama Studios had acquired the worldwide digital and theatrical rights of the third part in the trilogy. This means that Aashirvad Productions, for the first time, will not be distributing the film in their home state.
