The film will capture his journey from small-town Tamil Nadu to global racing circuits.
Former F1 ace Narain Karthikeyan has confirmed that a biopic on his incredible racing journey is in the works. Karthikeyan, India’s first Formula One driver, was speaking at a session at the India Today South Conclave 2025 in Coimbatore when he confirmed the development.
In July, it was announced that Malayalam filmmaker Mahesh Narayanan will direct the biopic of Karthikeyan. The Tamil film, which is in development at Blue Marble Films, will reportedly be produced by Faraz Ahsan, Vivek Rangachari, and Pratik Maitra, with Amish Shah and Nilaanjan Reeta Datta serving as associate producers. The screenplay of the film is being penned by Shalini Usha Devi, who wrote Soorarai Pottru (2021).
From the looks of it, Karthikeyan is closely involved with the development of the film. “It's a bit premature to talk about it. The script looks exciting," the veteran racer was quoted as saying. The film, he said, will capture his journey from small-town Tamil Nadu to global racing circuits.
“The journey to Formula 2 is what they are going to capture. From a very young age, what happened in Coimbatore, where I grew up, will be covered," Karthikeyan shared during a session titled 'Racing Ahead: Can India Catch the Formula One Dream?
The script is currently in the final stages and various actors are being considered. "Coming to actors, there are a lot of options. They've started finishing the script. Hopefully, they will go into production in the next few months. It will be released in multiple languages,” he shared.
Karthikeyan, born in Coimbatore in 1977, scripted history by becoming India’s first Formula One racer in 2005. He also raced in prestigious international venues, including A1 Grand Prix, Le Mans, and Super GT.
As announced earlier this year, Karthikeyan is working with Tamil actor and racer Ajith Kumar in the Asian Le Mans Series, aiming to qualify for the 24 Hours Le Mans race in France. Speaking about his collaboration with Ajith, he shared, “(Ajith’s) easy to get along with, eager to learn from professionals, and genuinely committed to building something for Indian motorsport. I’m really looking forward to this journey."
On Ajith's preparations for the intense, endurance-testing circuit, Karthikeyan added, "The last 18 months, he’s put in a lot of effort into his driving. He’s talented, but like all drivers, he’s had his share of incidents. Now he has become a much better and a competitive driver."
