Many questioned the need for a documentary on her, prompting the actress to share her thoughts on why she chose to go ahead with the project.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Nayanthara, the celebrated 'Lady Superstar' of South Indian cinema, addressed the backlash she received following the announcement of her documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale. Many questioned the need for a documentary on her, prompting the actress to share her thoughts on why she chose to go ahead with the project.
When asked about the emotions she hoped to evoke through the documentary, Nayanthara expressed her initial concern that the noise surrounding the project might overshadow the emotions she intended to convey. "I got scared a little bit that the noise is going to overpower the true emotion of that documentary. But thankfully, it did not," she said.
Addressing the criticism that questioned the need for a documentary on her life, she responded firmly: "Why not?" Nayanthara acknowledged that she is not a figure like Mother Teresa or a freedom fighter but emphasised that her journey carries its own significance. "I am a simple girl from a small hometown who has made it this far in a largely male-dominated industry," she said.
While she humbly compared herself to legendary actor like Sridevi, she made it clear that her documentary is not about success, but about resilience. "My story is about surviving a lot of struggles, a lot of pain, a lot of issues in life and overcoming all those issues and standing tall," Nayanthara shared. The documentary, she explained, is also about finding true, unconditional love—something she hopes will resonate with many women.
