'Prahaar - The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam' Locks New Release Date; Opens This October

Starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi in leading roles, the biopic was earlier slated to release on August 7.

Maddock Films has announced the new release date for Prahaar - The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam, the upcoming biopic on public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, starring Rajkummar Rao as Nikam and Wamiqa Gabbi in a key role. Directed by Avinash Arun Dhaware and produced by Dinesh Vijan under the Maddock Films banner, the film will release in theatres on October 16, 2026.

The film will see Rao step into the shoes of Nikam, best known for leading the prosecutions in the 1993 Mumbai bombings and the 2008 Mumbai train attacks.

The October release date comes after a postponed earlier release planned for August 7. Reports online rumoured the change in release date to be due to the packed release calendar through July and August, with films like Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Batwara 1947 and Awarapan 2 among others opening within this period.

Prahaar - The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam is directed by Three of Us and Paatal Lok helmer Avinash Arun. The film marks Rao's sixth collaboration with producer Dinesh Vijan after previous collaborations like blockbuster horror comedy Stree, Made in China, Roohi, and Hum Do Hamare Do. Their partnership pinnacled with the release of Stree 2, which emerged as a blockbuster.

The film is expected to revisit some of the most defining and disputable criminal trials in Indian history and will explore Nikam’s role in the legal battles surrounding the 1933 Bombay Blasts and 2008 Mumbai Train Attacks. The biopic went on floors in October last year.

Alongside Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, Prahaar – The Ujjwal Nikam Story also stars Jaideep Ahlawat, and Sikandar Kher in prominent roles.

This film isn't the only biopic that Rao is set to star in. He will also be seen playing former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly inthe much-awaited biopic Dada. Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, and produced by Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg under banner of Luv Films, Dada will document Ganguly's journey with the Indian cricket team. Rao was spotted filming the upcoming biopic at Kolkata’s Maidan earlier this year. Dada is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on May 14, 2027.
