Rajkummar Rao's 'Prahaar – The Ujjwal Nikam Story' Books August Release Date

Actor Rajkummar Rao is set for his first theatrical outing of the year: Prahaar – The Ujjwal Nikam Story. The film will see Rao step into the shoes of public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, best known for leading the prosecutions in the 1993 Mumbai bombings and the 2008 Mumbai train attacks.

The film is directed by Three of Us and Paatal Lok helmer Avinash Arun. Backed by Dinesh Vijan, the biographical drama will open in cinemas on August 7. This marks Vijan's sixth collaboration with Rao.

Prahaar – The Ujjwal Nikam Story is expected to revisit some of the most defining and disputable criminal trials in Indian history and will explore Nikam’s role in the legal battles surrounding the 1933 Bombay Blasts and 2008 Mumbai Train Attacks. The filming began in October last year.

Prahaar – The Ujjwal Nikam Story also stars Wamiqa Gabi, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Sikandar Kher in prominent roles.

Rao's association with Vijan began with Stree, Made in China, Roohi, and Hum Do Hamare Do. Their partnership pinnacled with the release of Stree 2, that emerged as a blockbuster.

Prahaar – The Ujjwal Nikam Story is being produced under Maddock Films, and its release precedes Rajkumar Santoshi’s Batwara 1947, starring Sunny Deol, Aamir Khan, Priety Zinta, and Shabana Azmi among other notable actors.

Batwara 1947 is set to release in theaters just a week after, on August 14. It will also beat the release of Nitik Kakkar’s Awarapan 2, featuring Emraan Hashmi and Disha Patani in lead roles.

This isn't the only biopic that Rao is attached to star in, as the actor will also be seen playing former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly. Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, the film is currently on floors.
