Rakul Preet Singh has hit back at reports linking her to the Income Tax Department's search operations across at least 12 premises in Mumbai, calling them "false, malicious and speculative."

The searches reportedly involved her father-in-law, veteran producer Vashu Bhagnani, and production house Panorama Studios.

In a strongly worded statement on Instagram, Singh said the search did not pertain to her and wrote, "I understand that everyone running a media business however big has their own commercial pressures. But it cannot come at the cost of facts. And certainly not at the cost of someone's reputation and livelihood."

As first reported by India Today, the Mumbai IT division was conducting the searches across 12 premises in Mumbai in connection with alleged financial irregularities and foreign capital transfers tied to film ventures. Officials did not say how far the transactions extended or give any figures under scrutiny.

In her statement, Singh said she comes from an Armed Forces background, had no godfather in the industry and has paid her due taxes since the age of 20.

"I am not involved in any kind of illegal Foreign remittance in personal capacity or on behalf of any Production house," she wrote. She also denied holding any benami property in India or abroad and added that no one has ever gifted her property and that, as a principle, she does not accept such expensive gifts.

The Income Tax Department has not issued a formal statement on any preliminary findings, and it has not confirmed any violations.

Singh also criticised the media coverage of the searches. "It's heartbreaking to see that there's a growing trend amongst the self-styled online reporters & some main stream media journalists to sensationalise the news without verifying facts," she wrote. Singh is married to actor-producer Jackky Bhagnani, whose family heads Pooja Entertainment.
