Ram Gopal Varma to Direct ‘Police Company’ Starring Harshvardhan Rane as Encounter Specialist Daya Nayak

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma is set to return to the crime genre with his next action drama, titled Police Company. Backed by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series in association with RGV Company, the film stars Harshvardhan Rane in the role of Mumbai’s legendary encounter specialist Daya Nayak.

Inspired by true events, Police Company marks the first collaboration between Kumar and Varma and is scheduled to go on floors later this month.

Announcing the title on social media, Varma highlighted the historical context behind the project, pointing to the late 1990s and early 2000s when the Mumbai underworld was expanding its grip across the city. Between 1997 and 2004, a specialised squad was formed to dismantle organised crime networks, ultimately eliminating nearly 300 gangsters in high-profile encounters.

Police Company centers on Nayak’s journey during this volatile era, tracing his rise to becoming one of the nation's most recognized law enforcement figures.

"The story promises to delve into the intensity, pressures, and moral dilemmas that define a life spent on the frontlines of one of the world's toughest cities," the makers said in an official statement.

Rane is set to undergo a physical and performance-driven transformation to capture the grit and authenticity of the real-life officer. The actor also shared a video from his first trial look test for the film, writing, "@rgvzoomin Sir will now add more permanent details and build the look slowly 🎥." The film also has a huge ensemble cast, the details of which will be revealed soon.

Rane was last seen on the big screen in Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, co-starring Sonam Bajwa.
