Filmmaker Ram Madhvani has announced the launch of Equinox Virtual, a new storytelling venture focused on creating immersive mythological, spiritual, and cultural content through artificial intelligence and virtual reality. The initiative debuts with a short film adaptation of the Bhagavad Gita, developed over two years using AI technology. Private previews of the film are currently underway.

Known for projects such as Neerja (2016), the National Film Award-winning biographical title starring Sonam Kapoor, and Aarya (2020), the Sushmita Sen-led series for JioHotstar, Madhvani’s latest move marks a shift into immersive media. Equinox Virtual, co-founded with producer Amita Madhvani, plans to expand rapidly, with 24 more films in development and a target of producing 100 AI-VR titles by 2028.

Speaking about the motivation behind the project, Madhvani said the goal is to reclaim focus in an era of distracted personal viewing. “In VR, we have an opportunity to restore the sanctity of immersive storytelling. And what better source than epics and texts that have endured for centuries?”

The studio’s approach centres on storytelling over hardware, aiming to create experiences that are emotionally resonant and culturally rooted. The content draws from Indian mythology, devotional narratives, and spiritual literature, using AI to bring traditional stories into a modern immersive format.

“Technology should serve emotion, not overshadow it,” said Amita Madhvani. “This project is not just about innovation—it’s about creating space for reflection, connection, and new ways of engaging with our cultural heritage.” While investor interest and distribution partnerships are in progress, Madhvani noted that the focus remains on refining the creative vision before scaling. Discussions are currently underway with VR device manufacturers to support broader access in the future.

Equinox Virtual operates as a division of Equinox Films, known for its work in both advertising and long-format storytelling.
