Ramayana has been hit severely by the pre-Diwali release window, but still put up a healthy day-one total.
Filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari’s magnum opus, led by Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi, debuted on a non-holiday Thursday, and set new benchmarks for the release window.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film’s worldwide gross at the end of day one stood at an estimated ₹127.50 crore. In India, the film generated a gross of ₹77.50 crore, translating to an all-India net of ₹64.85 crore across 25,200 shows. Overseas business added ₹50.00 crore, accounting for 39 perecent of its total global launch.
The Hindi market anchored the domestic run, collecting an estimated ₹47.50 crore net from 20,678 shows, followed by Kannada at ₹7.25 crore net, Telugu at ₹6.00 crore net, Tamil at ₹2.60 crore net, and Malayalam at ₹1.50 crore net to round out the ₹64.85 crore all-India total.
The main drag keeping the domestic launch below huge numbers was the pre-Diwali phase. Releasing on a non-holiday Thursday right before the main festival historically suppresses footfalls due to pre-holiday travel, shopping, and preparations.
Trade experts note that though booking was strong, walk-ins were lower, which affected day-one numbers.
Despite that, Ramayana broke the record for the biggest pre-Diwali opening day, comfortably surpassing Salman Khan’s Tiger 3 (2023), which netted ₹44.50 crore on its pre-Diwali Sunday release.
Ramayana also established key benchmarks across several categories. With an all-India net of ₹64.85 crore, it surpassed Animal (₹63.80 crore net) to become Ranbir Kapoor’s highest career opening day. It also grabbed the third spot in Yash's career openers behind KGF: Chapter 2 and Toxic.
Among original Hindi releases of 2026, Ramayana claimed the second spot of the year, edging out Ajay Devgn's Drishyam 3: The Conclusion (₹62.00 crore net) and trailing Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar: The Revenge (₹102.55 crore net).
In all-India net terms across languages, Ramayana fell short of another adaptation, Prabhas’ Adipurush (2023), which opened to ₹86.75 crore net domestically.
Contextually, Adipurush benefited from a normal non-holiday Friday release in mid-June — completely free of pre-festive friction — and exploded with more than ₹37 crore net opening in the Telugu states alone. Ramayana, by contrast, faced a non-holiday Thursday pre-Diwali window while pulling in a more Hindi-heavy ratio.
By Sacnilk's global debut records, Ramayana's ₹127.50 crore worldwide gross lands it in the top 15 overall Indian openers.
