'Ramayana': Ranbir Kapoor and Team Introduce First Visuals at LA Event; Call Lord Rama 'Conscience Keeper of Billions'

Titled 'Rama', the teaser will be launched in India on April 2, coinciding with Hanuman Jayanti.

One of the biggest Indian films of all time is finally here. Almost. The team of Ramanaya, led by actor Ranbir Kapoor, director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra, has started their promotions with a special screening of their visual asset from the film in Los Angeles.

Titled the 'Rama' glimpse, the teaser will be launched in India on April 2, coinciding with Hanuman Jayanti. According to videos from the event in LA, the team attended the screening and held a brief QnA with the audience.

Kapoor, who stars in the film as Lord Rama, called him a "conscience keeper of billions of people around the globe for centuries and long after."

"He will continue being so long after we have gone. He enlightens us about the human spirit in terms of adversities. He stands for compassion, for courage, for righteousness and forgiveness. He is called Maryada Purushottam, which stands for an ideal man," Kapoor said.

The film also features KGF star Yash as Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. Ramayana is written by Shridhar Raghavan.

Malhotra had previously announced the launch of the asset with a note, underlining the responsibility of adapting one of India’s most enduring mythological texts for the screen.

“This is a story that belongs to all of us,” Malhotra wrote, adding that the project had been approached with “responsibility, devotion and care” to bring the epic to life “in its truest spirit and scale”. He confirmed that audiences would see the next glimpse, titled Rama, on 2 April, describing the reveal as a “grand world launch with fans”.

Filmed for the IMAX, Ramayana is directed by Tiwari (of Dangal fame) and backed by Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios and 8-time Oscar-winning VFX studio DNEG in association with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. The film is eyeing a grand release during Deepavali this year.
