Vijay Deverakonda is ready to fight against injustice. The makers of the actor's upcoming film, Ranabaali, dropped its first teaser, showcasing the world of the period actioner which co-stars Rashmika Mandanna.
Directed by Rahul Sankrityan, the film is a period action drama set during 19th-century British rule. The teaser opens with a narration about economic exploitation, man-made droughts and the suffering inflicted on Indian regions under British officials. The setting has been described by the makers as a "cursed land", with the story said to be inspired by real events.
Deverakonda plays Ranabaali, a man branded a "savage" by the British but seen as a hero by his own people, while Mandanna plays his wife, Jayamma. Arnold Vosloo, best known for playing Imhotep in the Mummy franchise, plays Sir Theodore Hector, an antagonist and British general. The makers have introduced his character as "The Demon Of Drought."
The film marks Deverakonda's third collaboration with Mythri Movie Makers after Dear Comrade and Kushi, and his third pairing with Mandanna following Geetha Govindam and Dear Comrade. It's also the real-life couple's first film release since their wedding earlier this year, adding another layer of anticipation to the rollout
Ranabaali is produced by Naveen Yerneni and Y. Ravi Shankar under Mythri Movie Makers, with T-Series presenting the film. The film is written by Pramod Tammineni, with music by Ajay-Atul, cinematography by Nirav Shah, production design by Shivam Rao Nagasani and editing by Karthika Srinivas R. International action directors Yannick Ben and Andy Long Nguyen have handled the film's action sequences.
After initially being slated for a September 11 release, Ranabaali was pushed to October 16, positioning it as one of the year's biggest pan-India Dussehra releases. The film will also release in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.
