Prateik Patil Babbar reveals his favourite Smita Patil films.

A two-time National Award winner and Padma Shri recipient, Smita Patil continues to be regarded as one of the finest actors of her time. But she was also a staunch feminist. From her role as the fiery Bindu in Manthan (1976), who bravely took on the milk mafia, to portraying Sonbai in Mirch Masala (1987), who used red chilli powder as her weapon of choice, Patil’s filmography deeply impacted how women were perceived on screen.

Carrying forward her legacy today is her son, Prateik Patil Babbar, who made his own film debut with Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na (2008), which earned him both a Filmfare Special Jury Award and a Stardust Award for Breakthrough Performance. Babbar is best known for his performances in Baaghi 2 (2018) and Chhichhore (2019), and he’s currently awaiting the release of Khwaabon Ka Jhamela on November 8, while also shooting for Sikandar. The actor is an integral part of Arshad Syed’s Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan, and is set to star alongside veteran actress Shabana Azmi in Imaginary Rain, who was also his late mother’s co-star in Arth (1982).

The Hollywood Reporter India honours the late actor’s memory by speaking to her son, who shares his favourite movies featuring his mother.
