Sanchita Ugale: AICWA Calls for High-Level Investigation into Actor's Death, Creation of Mental Health Committee

The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis following the death of actor Sanchita Ugale, calling for a high-level investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. The association has also asked for the creation of a dedicated committee to look into the increasing number of deaths and mental health issues within the film and television industry.

Ugale, who was known for her work in television shows including Kumkum Bhagya, Wagle Ki Duniya and Dilwali Dulha Le Jayegi, died on June 14 at age 22. According to police, she was found at her residence in Nalasopara, Maharashtra, and was later declared dead at a local hospital. Authorities have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and are continuing their investigation. Police officials have stated that no suicide note was recovered from the scene, while family members do not allege any foul play.

In its letter to the chief minister, AICWA said Ugale's death had raised concerns within the entertainment industry and called for a transparent inquiry into the circumstances leading up to it. The organisation also urged the state government to establish a committee focused on mental health and workplace welfare for artists, technicians and other industry workers. According to the association, such a body could help address issues related to psychological stress, professional uncertainty and working conditions in the sector.

Ugale had appeared in several television and film productions, including Chhaava and Silence 2: The Night Owl Bar Shootout. She was also recognised by television audiences for her roles as Diya Tandon in Kumkum Bhagya, Ruchita Jaitley in Wagle Ki Duniya and the lead character Sukoon in Dilwali Dulha Le Jayegi.
