Shanaya Kapoor is set to make her acting debut with the upcoming romantic drama Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, but her showbiz journey hasn't been without hiccups. The actor was set to be launched with Karan Johar-backed Bedhadak, but the film got shelved in 2022. Another project, for which she had auditioned, didn't mateialise, and it was then that she finally bagged the Santosh Singh directorial, which also stars Vikrant Massey.

"I had auditioned for another project at that time, which unfortunately didn’t work out. The casting director had liked the audition tape and she sent it across to Sandy sir (Santosh), and he really liked it," Shanaya said at the trailer launch of the film, which is inspired by Ruskin Bond's short story The Eyes Have It.

The actor said it wasn't a "nice" feeling when she lost out on the project after her failed audition, which made her realise that sometimes things don't happen for a reason.

"When that audition didn’t go through and I didn’t get that project, it wasn't a nice feeling. I took it in my stride and tried to look at it in a positive light. However, it does bother you as an actor. But when finally it worked out for this film, it suddenly felt like, 'Oh my God, thank you!'”

The event was also attended by Shanaya's parents, Sanjay and Maheep Kapoor. Sanjay was visibly emotional as he went on stage to address the media. "I have been working for the last 30 years, but I have never been this nervous. Today I am very nervous. Before I shed some tears, thank you," he said.

Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, presented by Zee Studios and Mini Films, and produced by Mansi Bagla and Varun Bagla, is gearing up to hit the big screen on July 11. Apart from this, Shanaya will also be seen in Student of the Year 3, which will stream on Disney+Hotstar as a series.
