Actors often audition for years before they sign a film, and sometimes, years after they do. In an exclusive interview with Sneha Menon Desai, Deputy Editor at The Hollywood Reporter India, Sharvari discusses the art of waiting, and why patience is an actor’s most important quality.

Sharvari started off by mentioning that generally, actors wait for years before they sign their first project and then work back-to-back. But that wasn’t the case for her. “I [started] auditioning from 2014, and after five years I was in The Forgotten Army - Azaadi Ke Liye (2020), and then in Bunty Aur Babli 2 (2021).”

The pandemic happened shortly after the release of her first film, so her next release was stalled. “After I [completed] shooting Bunty Aur Babli 2, there was a four year [wait],” she revealed.

She recalled hearing that once an actor has had their first film release, and people watch it, other projects just follow. “But I didn't get any work. Bunty Aur Babli 2 released in 2021, and Munjya (2024) was a 2024 release. That wait was so long!”

Sharvari continued, “When you do your first film, people don't know you. But people got to know me and then I was gaayab [I disappeared].” She remembers a particularly disheartening moment when she walked into a meeting where somebody asked her if she was on a sabbatical.

“I know it took me time, and I know that there was a long wait for the next film to be released,” she said. “It really broke my heart, but I knew that there were films I was going to work on, like Munjya and Maharaj (2024).”

She explained that while she knew that she was still working, her audience didn't — and that made for a rather difficult time in her career. “You think ek picture karli toh wait khatam, [the wait is over after you do one film] but it doesn't work like that. This waiting comes in at any point in your career,” Sharvari explained.

Signing off on a positive note, the actor notes that while she waited a long time, the fact that two of her projects were released in 2024 was great timing: “I'm very happy where it [ the waiting] has led to.”
