Actor Soubin Shahir Not Allowed To Leave India Amid 'Manjummel Boys' Case
The Malayalam actor wanted to travel to Dubai for an awards function this month.
The Ernakulam Magistrate Court in Kerala has denied actor-producer Soubin Shahir permission to leave the country to attend an event in the UAE on the 5th of September, according to a report in India Today.
The report added that he sought permission to travel to Dubai for an awards function, but this was denied in connection with an ongoing financial fraud case related to his production Manjummel Boys, which was released last year.
The actor was reportedly invited to the South India International Movie Awards (SIIMA) to receive an award for Manjummel Boys. According to reports, the actor will likely approach the Kerala High Court seeking relaxation of the bail conditions.
The actor was arrested in July due to this case and was released on bail on the same day. The actor was last seen in Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie and was praised for his performance as Dayalan, an undercover officer. His production Manjummel Boys became an all-time highest grosser of Malayalam cinema when it was released, grossing close to ₹240 crore. A case was filed against Soubin and his father, Babu Shahir, based on a complaint by Siraj Valiyathara Hameed of Aroor. It was alleged that Soubin Shahir’s production had promised a 40 per cent profit share if Siraj invested ₹7 crore in Manjummel Boys.
The case is reportedly registered under Sections 120B (Punishment for criminal conspiracy), 34 (common intention), 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 468 (forgery for cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.
The 2024 survival thriller film was written and directed by Chidambaram, and it starred Soubin, Sreenath Bhasi, Deepak Parambol, Balu Varghese, Ganapathi S Poduval, Lal Jr, Abhiram Radhakrishnan, Arun Kurian, Khalid Rahman and Shebin Benson. The film earned ₹167.1 crore gross in India, according to Sacnilk.
