Actor Sunny Deol is all set to reprise his role as defense lawyer Arjun Mehra in the second instalment of the Netflix courtroom drama, Ikka.
According to a news article by India Today, Ikka 2 will be helmed by Siddharth P Malhotra, who also directed the first film which released on Netflix in July this year.
It marked Deol's first project made directly for a streaming platform, and also reunited him with Akshaye Khanna years after their last on-screen venture in Border (1997).
While work on the sequel is already underway, it will not see Khanna returning in his role as Shauryaman Gaur, the murder suspect at the heart of the case.
A source connected to the project told the publication that the writing for sequel has already begun.
"The story will continue with Sunny Deol as Ikka. However, the new season will be a new story, with Akshaye Khanna not continuing in the second part. The work on it is expected to begin next year. Right now, the writing and theme is being worked on," the source revealed.
With the makers currently sharpening the theme and the story, production is expected to begin the coming year. No further details about the rest of the cast members have been revealed yet.
Deol will be next seen as Lord Hanuman in Nitesh Tiwari's intensely-awaited Ramayana and as a police officer in the crime thriller Antony.
