“In Tamil, ‘kang’ refers to volcanic material. This term evolves into ‘kanguvan,’ a name given to a person, which then transforms into ‘kanguva,’ the film's title,” he said. Essentially, “Kanguva” signifies someone fiery, someone who embodies the essence of volcanic material. Suriya plays dual roles in the film, with Kanguva being one of them. The other is Francis Theodore, a character he has likened to the “wind”. With a budget of more than ₹350 crore, Kanguva is reported to be one of the most expensive Indian films ever made. At a recent press event in Mumbai, producer KE Gnanavel Raja said that plans for a sequel were already in the works.

Written and directed by Siva, Kanguva will release in theatres on November 14. It also stars Bobby Deol, Disha Patani,Natarajan Subramaniam, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Kovai Sarala, Anandaraj and K. S. Ravikumar.
