Sunny Deol's upcoming crime thriller Suryaa: Ant Se Aarambh Tak has faced a setback before its scheduled theatrical release on November 20. According to the latest update from ANI, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) noted that the film has not been submitted for certification.
This development comes after the Indian Medical Association (IMA) wrote a letter to Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, flagging the films promotional content and the way it portrays the medical profession.
Suryaa: Ant Se Aarambh Tak, directed by M Padmakumar and inspired by true events, stars Deol as Soorya Pratap Singh, a father who loses his daughter to a personal tragedy. He takes on a corrupt medical establishment for malpractice, confronting figures within the medical and legal systems.
In its letter, the IMA opposed the both, the generalisation of corruption within the healthcare system, as well as how the film depicts violence against medical professionals. The letter also warned that such a portrayal could endanger the safety of healthcare workers and the relationship between doctors and patients.
A portion of the letter read, "We wish to express our serious concern regarding the portrayal of the medical profession in the film SURYAA Ant Se Aarambh Tak. Its promotional content raises concerns about the generalisation of corruption within healthcare, the depiction of violence against medical professionals, and the potential consequences for public trust and the safety of healthcare workers.”
The IMA also felt that the films promotional content could lead audiences to believe that unethical practises are widespread across the medical fraternity, and raised further questions regarding the film's scenes that depict physical assault on doctors, nurses and other hospital staff.
