Tabu Joins Vijay Sethupathi in Puri Jagannadh’s Pan-India Film
The acclaimed actress comes on board for a pivotal role in the multilingual action drama from Puri Connects. The film begins shooting in June and will release in five languages.
Tabu has joined the cast of filmmaker Puri Jagannadh’s latest pan-India feature, which stars Vijay Sethupathi in the lead. The project, announced earlier this week on the occasion of Ugadi, is being billed as the director’s most ambitious film to date.
Backed by Puri Jagannadh and producer Charmme Kaur under their banner Puri Connects, the film promises a high-octane narrative with a strong ensemble and production scale. Sethupathi, widely regarded for his transformative performances, will be seen in what the makers describe as a “never-before-seen” role, with Jagannadh penning the script himself.
Tabu, known for her discerning film choices, is set to play a pivotal role in the story. Her decision to join the cast was reportedly driven by the strength of the character and the overarching narrative. The actor was most recently seen in Dune: Prophecy, the prequel series in the Dune franchise. She is also part of Bhoot Bangla, a horror-comedy directed by Priyadarshan and co-starring Akshay Kumar, slated for release later this year.
The yet-to-be-titled film will be released in five Indian languages — Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi — and is scheduled to begin shooting in June. While further details on the plot remain under wraps, the production team has indicated that additional casting announcements will follow soon.
The collaboration marks a first between Tabu and Vijay Sethupathi, and is expected to attract attention across markets, given the star power involved and the increasing demand for multi-language Indian films with pan-Indian appeal.
