‘Tehran’ Trailer: John Abraham Is A Lone Warrior in Geopolitical Action Thriller
Directed by Arun Gopalan and produced by Maddock Films, 'Tehran' has skipped its theatrical release and will premiere on ZEE5 on August 14.
John Abraham is both hunter and hunted in his new geopolitical action thriller, Tehran. Directed by Arun Gopalan and produced by Maddock Films and Bake My Cake Films, the globe-spanning spy drama has skipped its theatrical release and will premiere on ZEE5 on August 14.
The makers announced the pre-Independence Day OTT release with an action-packed trailer. After bombs go off in three countries, Rajeev Kumar (Abraham), a top-ranking, no-nonsense officer of the Delhi Police, is called to investigate. His sharp sleuthing results in a grave personal loss, after which Rajeev, swearing vengeance, takes off to Tehran. He becomes an internationally wanted man, a ghost, ‘deserted by India, abandoned by Israel and hunted by Iran’.
Tehran is inspired by the 2012 bomb explosion near the Israeli Embassy in Delhi, using the real-life incident as a jumping-off point for its vast, smoke-and-mirrors narrative. The film is releasing at a time of intense geopolitical tensions between Israel and Iran and the larger conflict in the Middle East.
Tehran also stars Manushi Chhillar, Neeru Bajwa, and Madhurima Tuli. Abraham, who was last seen in The Diplomat, says his character in the new film is ‘not your conventional patriot.’ He called ACP Rajeev Kumar one of the most ’intense and layered roles of my career’.
“He’s a man constantly torn between duty and conscience, and that moral conflict is what makes this story so compelling. This film isn’t about good versus evil—it’s about navigating the grey,” Abraham said.
For director Arun Gopalan, Tehran holds up a mirror to our fractured world. It is a story about “shifting loyalties, blurred identities, and the human cost hidden in the shadows of global politics," Gopalan said.
Several of Abraham’s recent films touch on real-world events. The Diplomat, for instance, was inspired by the true story of Uzma Ahmed, an Indian woman trapped in Pakistan, and the cross-border mission to rescue her. In the film, Abraham played the role of IFS officer Jitendra Pal Singh.
