Industry stalwarts Dil Raju and Chiranjeevi thanked the Telangana government for the intervention.
The Telugu film workers' strike, which has been ongoing for the past 18 days, came to an end on Thursday, reportedly following the intervention of Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. An agreement was reached post-negotiations, paving the way for filming to resume from August 25.
As part of the settlement, according to Cinema Express, industry workers will now receive a 22.5% wage increase to be implemented in three phases: 15% in the first year, 2.5% in the second year and 5% in the third year. Many additional demands have also been agreed upon, with remaining issues scheduled to be examined by a committee led by the Principal Secretary, which is expected to submit its report within a month.
Telugu film shoots had been suspended over a dispute between producers and the Telugu Film Industry Employees Federation (TFIEF) over a proposed 30 per cent wage increase. The strike, which brought production to a standstill, threatened to delay several films currently in the works. The TFIEF, along with allied craft unions spanning departments from stunt work to make-up, defended its wage hike demand, pointing to the sharp rise in production costs for films competing in a nationwide market — even as top stars and directors command fees running into several crores.
Producer Dil Raju expressed happiness at the outcome. “I thank the Hon’ble Chief Minister for acting swiftly to resolve the issue. I also thank the Producers’ Council and the Employees’ Federation for their understanding, and appreciate Gangadhar and the labour officials for ensuring the talks concluded successfully. The CM has a vision to transform Hyderabad into a major film hub," he said in a statement.
Superstar Chiranjeevi said in a statement, “I wholeheartedly express my gratitude to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Telangana, Sri Revanth Reddy, for resolving a highly complex industry issue in a very harmonious manner, ensuring justice for both producers and workers.”
Filming of Mass Jathara and Ustaad Bhagat Singh are reportedly among the shoots scheduled to restart following the strike.
