Producer and director Thiagarajan has bagged the Tamil remake rights of Telugu social drama Court, as per a report in The Times Of India. The film released this year in March and was directed by Ram Jagadeesh. It was both a critical and commercial success, having collected around ₹58 crore.

Thiagarajan, who is said to have bought the rights, had most recently remade Hindi film Andhadhun in Tamil with the title Andhagan (2024). It starred his son Prashanth in the lead. Ayushmann Khurrana had played the role in the original.

Thiagarajan had also remade Telugu film Julayi into Saagasam and Johnny, a remake of Sriram Raghavan’s Johnny Gaddaar. These two films also starred actor Prashanth.

Court dealt with the sensitive topic of how the POCSO act was being misused by a certain section. THR India's review of the Priyadarshi and Sivaji film reads, “Court - State Vs. A Nobody, among many other things, wonders whether there is any fundamental difference in autonomy and rights between an individual aged 17 years and 364 days and one who has fully turned 18, but the writers of the film forget the fact that it isn’t in their purview to question without a clear intent. As much as the opinions shared stem from genuine curiosities, the entire proposal feels empty and misplaced, which doesn’t necessarily work in the film’s favour."

The review added, "Yet, it comes together because of how well it caters to the genre conventions. Court - State Vs. A Nobody knowingly plays to the gallery wherever needed and is mindful of how to use its 150-minute runtime. The performances are solid (Harshavardhan in yet another dependable show) and the emotional highs strike the right chord with us, and even the familiarity of the genre doesn’t restrict the film from bringing in a few personal touches.”

Prashanth's last release was GOAT, in which he starred alongside Vijay.
