‘The Odyssey’ Box-Office: Christopher Nolan’s Epic Crosses ₹140 Crore Gross in India as Universal Issues Takedowns Over Leaks

Filmmaker Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey remains unstoppable at the Indian box-office, putting up a sensational second weekend performance driven by glowing word-of-mouth and housefull shows across the country, particularly across premium IMAX formats.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film netted ₹6.85 crore on its second Friday before witnessing a massive weekend surge of over 50 percent. The Odyssey added an estimated ₹11.05 crore on Saturday and ₹11.45 crore on Sunday, bringing its 10-day domestic total to ₹119.65 crore net (approximately ₹142.86 crore gross).

The Odyssey is set to enjoy another free run at the Indian box office before facing stiff competition this Friday from Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The Tom Holland and Zendaya-starrer is already tracking toward a historic ₹50 crore opening day in India, which is expected to eat into The Odyssey’s general-screen momentum.

Nolan's film should retain a firm grip on premium large formats, particularly IMAX. The film’s distinct theatrical appeal has also been rooted in its technical ambition as it was shot entirely using IMAX cameras, making it the first feature film in history to be captured completely on the format.

Globally, the epic continues its dominant theatrical run, sailing past the $600 million mark in its second weekend to reach $639.6 million worldwide.

As momentum builds, The Odyssey remains on track to surpass the $1.2 billion benchmark. The huge numbers have come in even as a high-quality version of the movie was leaked on X, where it amassed millions of views and thousands of reposts before the content was removed and the account suspended.

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Pictures said, “We became aware of the unauthorized posting of the film and immediately initiated takedown protocols. We take copyright infringement seriously and will pursue all appropriate remedies to protect our content and intellectual property rights.”

An adaptation of Homer's ancient epic poem, the star-studded film features Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Samantha Morton, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron.
