'The Odyssey' Box-Office: Christopher Nolan's Epic Makes Historic India Debut, Nets Over ₹60 Crore

As predicted, Christopher Nolan has made a historic India debut with his epic, The Odyssey. Marking Nolan's biggest footprint in Indian box office, the film opened to a solid first day, collecting a net of ₹17.40 crore on Friday.

With this, it surpassed the opening-day collection of Nolan's own blockbuster Oppenheimer, which had netted around ₹15 crore. The Odyssey experienced a massive rise on its second day, reaching ₹22 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.

On day 3, the film maintained its strong hold, collecting a net of ₹21.90 crore across 9,195 shows which brought its India gross collections to ₹73.19 crore and total net collections to ₹61.30 crore.

Along with Oppenheimer, it trumped the opening-day numbers of Nolan's other major films including Tenet, Interstellar, and Dunkirk, and also marks his biggest worldwide opening of all time at $264.1 million, topping The Dark Knight Rises’ $249 million global launch in 2012.

The blockbuster launch stands as one of the biggest openings ever for a Hollywood film in India, and the strongest start any international release has had in 2026. Ticket sales were exceptions from the outset, with IMAX screens running full and premium multiplex chains reporting robust occupancy throughout the day.

A combination of Nolan's strong following among Indian cinephiles, the film's spectacular scale and strong word of mouth drove massive audience turnout right from the first screening. In the U.S., the film drew $29.6 million from IMAX screens domestically for 23.8 percent of its North American haul, and an additional $22.2 million from international IMAX showings.
