Christopher Nolan is poised to make history in India by delivering his biggest opening-day grosser yet with The Odyssey. The filmmaker's latest epic fantasy-actioner is projected to arrive with a bang, with day-one estimates in India tracking at ₹20 crore. This would comfortably surpass his previous Indian opening-day record of ₹14.45 crore, set by Oppenheimer in 2023.

An adaptation of Homer's ancient epic poem, the star-studded film features Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Samantha Morton, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, The Odyssey will release nationwide across more than 2,500 screens in India on July 17. This marks a significantly wider release footprint compared to Oppenheimer, which opened across 1,923 screens.

The film was shot entirely using the latest IMAX technology—marking the first-ever feature to be captured completely with IMAX cameras. This milestone has heavily driven its appeal in premium-format screens. According to tracking data, over one lakh tickets have already been sold across India’s 34 IMAX screens, with total opening-day pre-sales crossing 1.25 lakh tickets nationwide.

Globally, the film is projected to open upwards of $220 million, with an estimated $100+ million coming from the domestic North American market. Supported by an estimated production budget of $250 million and exceptionally strong advanced tracking, The Odyssey is well on its way to emerging as a massive global blockbuster.

The film stars Damon as Odysseus, the Greek king of Ithaca, chronicling his perilous, decade-long journey home after the fall of Troy as he battles mythical monsters and gods to reunite with his wife, Penelope, portrayed by Hathaway.
