Actor-filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is set to star in upcoming Tamil thriller Unkill_123. Directed by Sam Anton, the film is pegged as a 'terrifying digital nightmare' where 'every click has a consequence'. Producers Vels Film International released a poster for Unkill_123, featuring a grinning Kashyap in smashed sunglasses. While further details are awaited, the film appears to be a dark take on social media and digital ecosystems.
Kashyap, who splits his time between acting and filmmaking, and currently resides in Bengaluru, has been become a fixture in South cinema. He played the antagonist opposite Vijay Sethupathi in the acclaimed Tamil thriller Maharaja (2024). The same year, he was seen in a cameo appearance in Leo, and also appeared briefly in Viduthalai Part 2, playing a Naxal leader from Bengal. In Malayalam cinema, he was part of the ensemble of Rifle Club directed by Ashiq Abu.
Kashyap had first disclosed his decision to relocate to the South to THR India. The filmmaker expressed disillusionment with the current state of affairs in Hindi cinema, and said he finds stimulation and creative comradeship working in the South.
"The problem with Hindi cinema is that we think we have to create the next big blockbuster,” Kashyap told THR India in December last year, noting that his biggest takeaway from shooting Rifle Club was watching the way all the actors worked together — lauding their sense of camaraderie. “There were no lines of vanity vans. They thought I was coming from Mumbai, so they got a small van for me, but I hated it! I would rather spend time with them."
Kashyap will next be seen as an actor in Dacoit, starring Adivi Sesh. Meanwhile, as a director, his last film was the crime comedy Nishaanchi. He has two more projects, Bandar and Kennedy, in the offing.
