Veteran Actor Rajesh, Known For Roles in 'Virumaandi' and 'Mahanadi,' Dies At 75

Rajesh acted in 150 or more films and was known as a popular character actor in Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu films.

Actor Rajesh, famous for playing supporting roles in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam movies, died today in Chennai at the age of 75. According to reports, he suffered a sudden heart attack.

He made his acting debut in Aval Oru Thodarkathai (1974), directed by K. Balachander. His first lead role came was in 1979 in the Tamil film Kannipparuvathile. Before becoming an actor, he is said to have been a teacher. 

Rajesh acted in 150 or more films and was known as a popular character actor in Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu films. He also worked as a dubbing artiste in Tamil for popular Malayalam actors Murali and Nedumudi Venu, and worked on over 15 television serials as well. He was an executive committee member of the Nadigar Sangam (South Indian Film Artistes Association) too.

Rajesh’s most recent release was the Vijay Sethupathi-Katrina Kaif starrer Merry Christmas (2024). He had been active in films for more than five decades. 

Several film veterans, including Tamil film superstar Rajinikanth, condoled his death. "The news of the untimely death of my close friend, actor Rajesh, shocks me. It gives me immense pain. A wonderful man, may his soul rest in peace. My deepest condolences to his family and friends," the Superstar posted.

Actor and colleague Radhika Sarathkumar also posted on X, “Deeply shocked and sudden to hear of #rajesh s unexpected demise. Shared so many movies together and had a deep respect to his wide knowledge of cinema and life, will be missed by family, friends, and film fraternity. #RIP” 

Actor Simran said, “Deeply saddened to hear about the passing of veteran actor #Rajesh sir. A gifted artist and a gentleman. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. May his soul rest in peace. Om Shanti.”
