The makers of Vettuvam unveiled the first look of Sobhita Dhulipala from the film on May 31, coinciding with the actor’s 34th birthday. Directed by Pa. Ranjith, the upcoming Tamil film is described as a sci-fi post-apocalyptic story set across multiple timelines. The film stars Arya in the lead and also features Dinesh Ravi, Kalaiyarasan, Mime Gopi and Guru Somasundaram in key roles.

Sharing the poster on Instagram, Ranjith wrote: “Happy Birthday, @sobhitaD Someone who is strong, kind and always herself. Wishing you an adventurous year ahead Excited to show the world what we’ve created!” In the poster, Sobhita is seen in a black tank top and overshirt, staring ahead intently against a stormy backdrop.

Vettuvam marks Sobhita’s return to Tamil cinema following her appearances in Ponniyin Selvan: I (2022) and Ponniyin Selvan: II (2023). In an earlier interview, the actor described the film as her strongest work so far. Calling it an “extraordinary project,” she said it was an apocalyptic sci-fi film and noted that she had previously been attached to another project with Ranjith that did not eventually happen.

One of the leading directors of new age Tamil cinema, Pa. Ranjith is known for films like Kaala and Sarpatta Parambarai. His last directorial was the historical action drama Thangalaan, starring Vikram.

Speaking about Vettuvam, the filmmaker had earlier said the project was nearing completion, and was being planned for release after August this year. "The film has turned out really well,” Ranjith was quoted as saying. “I have built a new world in this film, and I hope the audience will like it. The film is packed with action and adventure. I have made this film as a blend of action and sci-fi, and I have high hopes that it will connect with the audience. We are planning to give viewers a completely new experience.”

Sobhita Dhulipala led the Telugu crime thriller Cheekatilo earlier this year. Her last Hindi outing was Love, Sitara, a relationship drama, in 2024.
