This week, the much-awaited prequel of the crime series Mirzapur is set to hit theatres for a thrilling, bloody and vengeful comeback, featuring most of the original cast. Jeevan Bheema Yojana will mark Arshad Warsi's third appearance in a theatrical release this year, while Dulquer Salmaan will lead a mass entertainer with I'm Game, marking his return to Malayalam cinema three years after his last.
Here is what to watch in theatres this week:
Hindi
The popular crime-drama series is back with a prequel. Directed by Gurmeet Singh, who also directed season 2 and season 3 of the series, the film brings back the core cast members from the original show, including Pankaj Tripathi as Kaleen Bhaiya, Ali Fazal as Guddu Pandit, Divyenndu as Munna Tripathi and Rasika Dugal as Beena Tripathi. Ravi Kishan has also joined the franchise in the role of a gangster.
The prequel will be anchored in the destructive relationship between Kaleen Bhaiya and his son Munna, and rising tension between Guddu and his father as the battle for the Mirzapur's throne escalates.
The film's full ensemble includes Abhishek Banerjee, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Harshita Gaur, Sushant Singh, Mohit Malik, Sheeba Chadha, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Anjum Sharma, Sonal Chauhan, Pramod Pathak, and Anangsha Biswas.
Mirzapur: The Movie will release in theatres on September 4.
Starring Arshad Warsi, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Vijay Raaz, Bijendra Kala and Pooja Chopra, the film centers on Jeevan and Yojana, a couple stuck in debt who try to find a way out through an insurance scheme after meeting a stranger named Bheema, who closely resembles Jeevan himself. As the couple devise a plan to get an insurance payout, they learn that the man they thought was dead is connected to diamond-smuggling.
Directed by Abhishek Dogra, the film is set for a theatrical release on September 4.
Tamil
The horror film is directed by Mariyappan Chinna and stars G.V. Prakash Kumar and Kayadu Lohar in lead roles. It follows a Mahi (Kumar) a bachelor in search for a room to share and ends up meeting a young woman named Sindhu (Lohar) who happens to be looking for someone to roommate. When Mahi moves in with Sindhu, he quickly falls for her beauty and wealth. But, things take an ominous turn when he realises strange encounters occurring within the flat and Sindhu knowing more about them than she seems to admit.
The film is set to release in theaters on September 4.
Telugu
Starring Sumanth Prabhas, Ananthika Sanilkumar and Upendra Limaye in lead roles, Romanchakam follows a young entrepreneur who launches a dating startup, but ends up falling for a woman himself which pushes him into a rocky ride full of humour, suspense and romance.
The film will release in theatres on September 3.
Malayalam
Starring Dulquer Salmaan and Kayadu Lohar lead this action-thriller which blends the worlds of cricket and casino to propel a unique story. Directed by Nahas Hidhayath, the film blends mind games, sports betting and high-octane action and centers on Dan John (Salmaan), a man who believes that each game is governed by algorithms, not luck.
The film also stars Mysskin, Samyuktha Viswanathan, Antony Varghese and Kathir. The trailer, which released in July, featured a glimpse of Mysskin and Kathir's character towards the end.
English
Onslaught is directed by Adam Wingard and centers a mother's struggle to protect her daughter when a rogue squad of genetically engineered soldiers who break loose in a dessert.
The thriller stars Adria Arjona, Rebecca Hall, Dan Stevens, Drew Starkley, Eric Wareheim and Reginald VelJohnson. It will release in theaters on September 4.
Starring Andrew Garfield, Claire Foy, Nonso Anosie and Nicola Coughlan in lead roles, The Magic Faraway Tree is a fantasy film which follows three children who discover a magical tree inhabited by fantastical characters and lands. he film centers on their adventure across this otherworldly existence while they help their family rediscover the many joys of being together.
Directed by Ben Gregor, the film will release in theatres in India on September 4.
