Ten films come to theatres this week, spanning Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, English and Hindi, including Nani's action drama The Paradise and Karthik Subbaraj's TIFF-premiered Dorothy. Here's what's releasing in theatres this week:
Hindi
When ancient folk legends bleed into the modern world, survival becomes a matter of faith. The Vvaan: Force of the Forrest kicks off in Mumbai, where Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia play a married couple heading back to their ancestral roots for Chhath Puja. But the quiet homecoming quickly turns dark. The film is billed as a folklore spectacle about a forbidden forest governed by a chilling rule: entry into the forest after sunset is prohibited.
The film also stars Sunil Grover, Shweta Tiwari, Maniesh Paul and Anup Soni. With dialogue by Anandeshwar Dwivedi, the film has been written by Arunabh Kumar, who has also produced the film with Niraj Kothari, Shobha Kapoor and Ektaa R Kapoor. Directed by Panchayat creator Deepak Kumar Mishra, The Vvaan: Force of the Forrest releases in theatres on September 25.
Malayalam
This crime thriller set in a moody coastal town explores an unexpected crisis setting a local police officer's life into deep psychological turmoil. It follows his story as he attempts to untangle a web of lies the town holds before his own life falls apart. Directed by Rajeesh Parameswaran and written by Vishnu Ramachandran, this crime drama starring Saiju Kurup, Siddique and Anju Kurian opens in theatres on September 25.
Directed by Sudhi Maddison, this film stars Sajin Gopu and Nikhila Vimal and centres on a time-travel premise of a couple stuck in an infinite time loop on their wedding night. The cast also includes Shine Tom Chacko, Siddharth Bharathan and Ganapathi. Produced by Sameer Thahir, Shyju Khalid, Sajin Ali Pulakkal and Abbas Thirunavaya, and with music by Justin Varghese, Dhoomakethu releases on September 25.
Tamil
Tamil filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj’s Dorothy, starring Keerthy Suresh, Sananth and Rishikanth, is set in rural Tamil Nadu in the early 1990s. The film follows Karthi and Subbu, two boys growing up in an unforgiving environment. The story takes a dramatic turn when a misfortune befalls Dorothy (Keerthy Suresh), a member of the household who has always treated the two childhood friends with gentleness. Dorothy had its world premiere at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival on September 12. The film premiered in the Centrepiece section, marking the first Tamil feature to premiere at TIFF in the past decade.
It carries an original score by Ilaiyaraaja, marking his 1,540th film. Produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain in association with Dhammam Films, Dorothy is scheduled to release in Indian theatres on September 25.
Directed by and starring Hiphop Tamizha, this musical drama is a sequel to the 2017 film of the same name, which covers the musician-turned-filmmaker's journey of starting his own band called "Hip-Hop Tamizha".
Alongside Hiphop Tamizha, the film co-stars Ketika Sharma, Chaithra J Achar, Ramya Ranganathan, Nassar and Karunas. Hiphop Tamizha has written the film and composed its music. Produced by Khushbu Sundar, Sundar C and ACS Arun Kumar, the film releases on September 25.
This romantic action drama stars Ashok Selvan and Preity Mukhundhan as a couple whose relationship is tested after marriage. Packed with intense action and blood-soaked fights, Anbil Avan follows the story of a couple attempting to start a good life together, until unexpected trouble finds them trapped in an unsettling situation. Directed by R. Kaarthikeyan, the film is written by Vignesh Raja, along with R. Kaarthikeyan and Ashok Selvan. The supporting cast includes Revathi and Sabumon Abdusamad. Anbil Avan releases worldwide on September 25.
Telugu
Directed by Srikanth Odela and starring Nani, this action drama centres on a marginalised tribal community's long oppression and denial of basic rights, with the story tracking the rise of a leader who challenges a deeply entrenched system. The cast includes Kayadu Lohar as the female lead alongside Nani, Raghav Juyal as the villain Vikram Malik, and Mohan Babu and Sampoornesh Babu in pivotal roles. The Paradise opens in theatres on September 24.
English
The 2019 Marvel blockbuster returns to theatres in an extended cut longer than the original release, with new footage connecting the story to the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the re-release will screen in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, and opens on September 25.
Directed by David Ayer, this survival thriller stars Brad Pitt as a former Special Forces officer who, alongside his combat dog, is stranded in the Alaskan wilderness after a plane crash. This film also features J.K. Simmons and Anna Lambe. Written by Cameron Alexander, the film releases on September 25.
Directed by Scott Waugh and starring Alan Ritchson, Owen Wilson and Rodrigo Santoro, this action film follows a former soldier and medical courier who has to deliver an organ for a child's transplant while being pursued by a cartel. Written by Miles Hubley and Tommy White, the film opens in theatres on September 25.
