What To Watch This Week: 'Awarapan 2,' 'Vishwanath and Sons,' 'Batwara 1947' And More

This week brings a strong lineup for Hindi and South cinema fans. Leading the pack are two highly anticipated Hindi releases: Awarapan 2, finally arriving after a 19-year wait, and Batwara 1947, a period drama marking Preity Zinta's return to the screen after eight years.

Suriya plays an international shooter in Venky Atluri's family drama, alongside two more releases exploring aging, generational conflict, and love. On the streaming front, Karan Johar's The Traitors Season 2 also returns this week.

Here's what to watch in theaters this week:

Hindi

Nitin Kakkar returns to direct the highly anticipated sequel to Mohit Suri's 2007 classic Awarapan. The film follows Shivam Pandit, played by Emraan Hashmi, on a thrilling journey through grief and loss as he searches for a reason to keep going. Narrated in Hashmi's voice, it brings the actor back in a new light — carrying the same hunger for revenge as the original, but with a newfound sense of rage and violence.

Awarapan 2 also stars Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi in pivotal roles, and releases in theaters on August 14.

Led by an ensemble cast including Aamir Khan, Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Vicky Kaushal, Karan Deol, Kanika Kapoor and Ali Fazal, Batwara 1947 is based on playwright Asghar Wajahat's Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai, set against the backdrop of the 1947 Partition of India.

Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan under Aamir Khan Productions, the film releases in theaters on August 14.

Karan Johar continues his reality TV run with The Traitors Season 2, streaming on Amazon Prime Video from August 13. Built on the same game of trust, betrayal and strategy, this murder-mystery format returns with a brand-new lineup of stars. This season brings together 21 celebrity contestants, including Mallika Sherawat, Rhea Chakraborty, Krystle D'Souza, Ranveer Brar, Dalip Tahil and more, who will engage in a battle of wits to unmask the traitors among them.

Tamil

Directed by Vishal, this Tamil action drama follows an easygoing man drawn into a legacy of violence as he fights to protect his son from some of South India's most dangerous gangsters. The film features an extensive cast led by Vishal, Anjali, Dushara Vijayan, John Vijay and V. Jayaprakash, and releases in theaters on August 14.

Directed by Venky Atluri, this family drama stars Suriya as a renowned international shooter whose life takes an unexpected turn when the sport he's devoted himself to collides with sudden family responsibilities and a new romance. The film follows his journey to find balance and rediscover what matters most.

Mamitha Baiju and Radhika Sarathkumar round out the cast in pivotal roles. Vishwanath and Sons releases in theaters on August 14.

Telugu

Directed by Uday Chauhan, this Telugu comedy-drama is set against the backdrop of rural Telangana and follows Shamboo, a 68-year-old villager whose simple wish for a toothbrush sparks outrage and pulls him into a legal battle with the son he shares a distant relationship with.

Through this unlikely conflict, the film explores family, generational divides, loneliness and the longing for human connection. The cast includes Sudhakar Reddy, Muralidhar Goud, Prajwal Yadma, Kiran Macha and Gomathy Reddy.

Produced by Annapurna Studios, Pallaburusu releases in theaters on August 14.

Malayalam

Directed by Mathew Scaria, this family drama follows Chanthu Menon, a retired bank manager navigating a major life shift alongside his wife as he moves from a career-driven life to a slower, quieter phase.

Madhuramee Jeevitham explores aging, the rhythms of everyday life, and the relationships that carry us through it. It stars Siddique, Vinaya Prasad, Gayathri Suresh, Poojitha Menon, Dilsha Prasannan and Johny Antony, and releases in theaters on August 14.

English

Anne Hathaway headlines this sci-fi mystery from director David Robert Mitchell, marking her fourth film this year. The story follows the Patt family after a mysterious cosmic event uproots their street from suburbia and strands it in the unknown, forcing them to stick together to survive this new and uncertain reality.

The film also stars Ewan McGregor, Christian Convery, Maisy Stella, P. J. Byrne and Chris Coy, and arrives in theaters on August 14.
