Vidyut Jammwal, whose last release was the Tamil film Madharaasi in 2025, will soon make his Hollywood debut in Kitao Sakurai's Street Fighter as the Indian yogi Dhalsim.
As the actor speaks with The Hollywood Reporter India shortly before the film's release on October 16, he takes a moment to go back in time to recall a few other milestones from his vast career of working in south Indian cinema.
As he recalls his first big hit, Thuppakki, in which he starred opposite current Tamil Nadu CM Vijay as the main antagonist, and his most recent film, the Tamil action-thriller Madharaasi in which he was cast opposite Sivakarthikeyan, again as the antagonist, he is also reminded of writer and director A.R. Murugadoss who cast him in both.
"My experience with Vijay was a little different because that was my first big hit that I had experienced. I didn't know what a hit was, till Thuppakki had released and blew up," says the actor.
The film saw success so quick, that the actor recalls celebrating even on the day it released. "The movie had released and it was Friday evening. I was on my flight to Chennai to celebrate the success, because we already knew it was doing do well," he recollects.
When it comes to Sivakarthikeyan, Jamwwal has nothing but praise and a bold statement to make about where he sees the actor headed. "Siva's brilliant... Murugadoss would not find somebody who he doesn't believe is brilliant," says the actor.
"I would say he could be one of this generation’s big action stars very soon. I've worked with him, and being an action-oriented actor myself, every time I perform with somebody, I know their potential," he expresses.
