The couple was found dead with fatal stab wounds in their Los Angeles residence; the LAPD is currently investigating the deaths
Rob Reiner, director of beloved Hollywood classics such as When Harry Met Sally, This Is Spinal Tap and A Few Good Men, was found dead along with his wife Michele Singer Reiner in their Los Angeles home on December 14, in what law enforcement investigators are treating as an apparent homicide.
According to reports, the Los Angeles Fire Department were the first responders to the residence, where the bodies of Reiner, 78, and Michele, 68, were first discovered with fatal stab wounds.
A statement from the Reiner family read, "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time."
Rob Reiner rose to fame in the 1970s with his portrayal of Mike “Meathead” Stivic on the acclaimed sitcom All in the Family. He went on to become a celebrated filmmaker, directing beloved and wide-ranging films such as This Is Spinal Tap, Stand by Me, Misery, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally… and A Few Good Men. Reiner also co-founded Castle Rock Entertainment, which produced well-known films like The Shawshank Redemption, City Slickers, Lone Star and Miss Congeniality.
Michele Singer Reiner, Rob's wife, was a photographer. The couple had been married since 1989, after meeting during the production of When Harry Met Sally. They are survived by their four children.
Several actors, former colleagues and public figures mourned Reiner's passing.
Condoling the death of the director and political activist, Former US President Barack Obama wrote on X, "Michelle and I are heartbroken by the tragic passing of Rob Reiner and his beloved wife, Michele. Rob’s achievements in film and television gave us some of our most cherished stories on screen. But beneath all of the stories he produced was a deep belief in the goodness of people—and a lifelong commitment to putting that belief into action. Together, he and his wife lived lives defined by purpose. They will be remembered for the values they championed and the countless people they inspired. We send our deepest condolences to all who loved them."
