At the Mumbai premiere of Aryan Khan’s directorial debut The B***s of Bollywood, Alia Bhatt stepped onto the red carpet with actor-husband Ranbir Kapoor in the closing look from Gucci’s Fall 1996 collection by Tom Ford — a white jersey slip cinched at the waist with the house’s signature G-buckle, worn by legendary model Kate Moss in the show.

Indian ambassadors of fashion labels tapping into archival looks from their houses seems long overdue now. Styled by Rhea Kapoor, the dress signals the moment Tom Ford redefined Gucci’s sensual minimalism, also known as Gucci’s most popular era.

Bhatt offset the archival look with a classic Gucci Bamboo 1947 mini and jewellery by Tiffany and co., with her hair slicked back into a clinical bun by longtime hairstylist Amit Thakur. Her signature minimal bronzed makeup was by Puneet Saini.

The resurrection of the Tom Ford-era Gucci has become a small phenomenon among collectors and stylists — its scarcity only intensifying the cultural currency of such moments and Bhatt’s outing lands as one of those events. Recent sightings of Tom Ford by Gucci pieces have underscored how mutable and coveted these archival references remain, with Hailey Bieber also repping the most iconic 95’ Gucci by Tom Ford shirt for the launch of Rhode on Sephora in New York City.

For Bollywood, Bhatt’s turn in vintage Gucci reads as more than a styling choice; it marks a moment in Indian history where house ambassadors turn to archival pieces for maximum impact. In an environment where ornate couture still dominates most Indian premieres, Bhatt’s archival moment felt almost radical for its economy: no surface embellishment, no competing textures, just the discipline of cut and finish. It is this restraint that places her look perfectly within Ford’s design vocabulary, where seduction was engineered through fit rather than ornament.

Held at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in Mumbai, the grand red-carpet gala saw Aryan's family as well as Kajol, Ajay Devgn, Madhuri Dixit Nene, Tamannaah Bhatia, Ananya Panday, Khushi Kapoor and others in attendance.
