On-Set Wardrobes: What Shalmali Kholgade, Neeti Mohan, Ankush Bahuguna and Akanksha Kommirelly Wear to Work
The wardrobe obsessions, heirloom treasures and everyday essentials ruling celebrity closets right now.
SHALMALI KHOLGADE (SINGER)
Known for her dynamic voice and genre-blurring sound, playback singer Shalmali Kholgade treats fashion like performance — expressive, mood-driven and powerful.
Studio Staples
Kholgade aims to be comfortable but never boring. “Recording is such an immersive, physical process, I need to feel unrestricted,” she says. “You’ll find me in oversized tees, relaxed denims or joggers, sometimes a shirt over a tank top.”
Performance Switch
“Classic sneakers are non-negotiable,” she says, deeming the New Balance 9060s her favourites to run between sessions. But on stage, she sticks to boots. Always. “The second I wear them, performance mode switches on,” she says.
Sentimental Staples
Kholgade cherishes a Vipul Shah gilet she’s had for years. And of course, her wedding sari is incredibly special.
Style Code
“Music influences everything,” says the singer. “If I’m creating something edgy or fashion-forward, you’ll see that reflected in how I dress. For me, style is performance. Even off stage.”
NEETI MOHAN (SINGER)
The voice behind Student of the Year’s (2012) “Ishq Wala Love” and Gangubai Kathiawadi’s (2022) “Meri Jaan”, Neeti Mohan’s soulful vocals have graced films, international stages and global tours. But whether she’s commanding a stage or catching a flight, Mohan’s wardrobe balances ease with elegance.
Boots and Beyond
“I love wearing ankle-length boots, be it on stage or at the airport,” says Mohan, who loves the gait they lend.
Heirloom Heart
Pieces of jewellery passed down from her mother, aunt and grandmother — some on her wedding day — are held close to her heart. “I also love wearing my mom’s saris. They’re very treasured,” she says.
Style Mantra
“In my day-to-day life, it’s about comfort, while on stage it’s high on glam,” she adds. The singer is known for the gowns she wears while singing soulful songs on stage.
AKANKSHA KOMMIRELLY (ENTREPRENEUR)
As the founder of clothing basics label akute, Akanksha Kommirelly has built a brand around the idea that everyday essentials should feel as good as they look. Her personal wardrobe reflects the same philosophy — clean, practical and rooted in comfort.
Everyday Essentials
“On a regular workday, I keep things extremely comfortable and fuss-free,” says Kommirelly. “It’s usually a well-fitted tank or tee, relaxed trousers or jeans, and something I can move around in easily.”
On Her Feet
She rotates between neutral flats, kitten heels, and comfortable sandals depending on the day. “If I can forget I’m wearing them, they’ve done their job,” she says.
Wardrobe Staples
“Tees and denim! Honestly, it’s the basics that fit really well,” Kommirelly says. “Pieces I can reach for repeatedly and style in different ways end up becoming the most valuable over time.”
Personal Philosophy
Her personal style is simple, practical, and very rooted in comfort; gravitating towards clean lines, neutral tones and silhouettes that feel easy yet polished.
ANKUSH BAHUGUNA (ACTOR-CREATOR)
Beauty creator Ankush Bahuguna takes style seriously. “Fashion really excites me, and I’m not afraid to experiment,” he says. He loves his prints and colours and sequins — and sometimes, all of them come together.
Work Wardrobe
A regular day at work for Bahuguna calls for shooting content from home, so he sticks to smart casuals. “But if I’m stepping out for meetings, I love layering,” he says, “maybe a jacket over something neutral and pleated pants.”
Close to Home
His most cherished possession is a T-shirt gifted to him by his sister. The creator says, “It’s nothing fancy, it’s casual. I wear it at home and feel most comfortable in it.”
Scent and Sensibility
While Burberry Hero is an all-time favourite perfume, he loves Tom Ford Ombré Leather for red carpets. “But Jo Malone Scarlett Poppy is one fragrance I want to gatekeep,” he admits. “It’s not your typical men’s perfume, but I love it. It’s very soft and flirty. It has personality.”
Get the Look
Ankush Bahuguna: “I’ve recently gotten really into mixing metals, so I love stacking different pieces and matching my make-up to the metallic tones of my jewellery,” says the creator. Best known for his beauty content, he attests to the fact that this simple trick can really jazz up a simple outfit.
Akanksha Kommirelly: “Small hoops, delicate rings, and sometimes a watch if I want the look to feel a little more structured,” she says. She keeps accessories minimal when it comes to formal work attire.
Neeti Mohan: “I have five to six pairs of earrings, chains and rings that I always keep in my bag to pick out and wear,” says the singer. She opts for easy-going, small, dainty, elegant pieces on the go. She always has an Apple Watch strapped to her wrist — counting her steps comes first — and a Rolex on special occasions.
Shalmali Kholgade: “I’m not a watch person. I own one and that’s a Garmin,” the singer says. As far as jewellery goes, if her outfit is minimal, she goes for chunky rings, layered chains, strong statement earrings. But on most days, she picks basic hoops. And of course, “My wedding ring!”
