Against the spectacular backdrop of the Gateway of India, the legacy of Vivienne Westwood graced the city with a one-of-a-kind showcase. The British luxury house, synonymous with punk aesthetics and rebellious couture, brought its signature style to the Indian metropolis, drawing a guest list that included Kareena Kapoor Khan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Janhvi Kapoor, Mira Rajput Kapoor, Alaya F and more.

The brand wrote on Instagram, "This evening, set against the backdrop of the historic Gateway of India, illuminated with vivid colours, we presented our first fashion show in India to celebrate the country’s rich artisanal textile heritage."

Westwood’s distinct aesthetic, known for its deconstructed silhouettes, corsetry and bold political messaging, found a fresh resonance against the backdrop of Mumbai’s sartorial landscape. The event not only celebrated the late designer’s enduring influence, but also highlighted the label’s expanding footprint in global markets.

While Twinkle Khanna opted for a chic outfit complete with an Hermès bag, Kareena Kapoor Khan wore a red gown and Diana Penty wore a corset-and-pant combo. However, the look that grabbed all the eyeballs was that of Radhika Ambani's, who wore an original Vivienne Westwood corset from 1990, featuring a painting by François Boucher. Her stylist, Rhea Kapoor paired the same with a custom saree.

The collection featured exaggerated proportions, rich fabrics and elements inspired by traditional Indian craftsmanship, subtly acknowledging the setting of the show. The interplay of tartan, asymmetry and historical references underscored the brand’s ability to remain both timeless and cutting-edge.

Beyond the glamour, the showcase served as a reflection of how global fashion is increasingly embracing cultural dialogues. As luxury brands turn their gaze towards India, not merely as a market but as a creative muse, Westwood’s presence in Mumbai felt like a nod to this evolving synergy.
