Suchin Mehrotra reviews Hunkkaar: The Roar, the six-episode JioHotstar series co-created by Nitya Mehra and Karan Kapadia. Aneet Padda plays Meenu Rawat, a teenager seeking justice against a powerful spiritual leader, Baap Ji, played by Raghubir Yadav. With Fatima Sana Shaikh as the investigating officer and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub as Meenu’s lawyer, the series follows a battle against institutional complicity, public scrutiny and a fiercely loyal following, while keeping the survivors at the centre of its story.

Suchin finds the opening two episodes less assured but praises a series that grows stronger as it unfolds. He examines its patient storytelling, striking cinematography and quietly powerful editing, which capture the emotional toll of seeking justice beyond the arrest and courtroom confrontations. Aneet anchors an exceptional ensemble with a performance of pain, determination and rage, while Raghubir is deeply unsettling as the manipulative godman. Suchin’s verdict: a searing portrait of the injustice system, a finely crafted achievement and one of the year’s finest shows.
