New additions include Simone Ashley as Amari (exquisite but with little to do), Justin Theroux as a Jeff Bezos-style tech mogul named Benji, Kenneth Branagh, Lucy Liu, and a cameo from Lady Gaga.
Anupama unpacks why the sequel is alluring and forgettable at once — sufficiently seductive but unable to recreate the ineffable magic of the original. She finds sparkling moments in Emily Blunt's flinty, funny turn and a quietly devastating Meryl Streep scene about the cost of a career that women love, but no monologue here matches the iconic Cerulean blue sweater speech. The film makes pointed observations about a media landscape sidelined by virality and tech moguls — including a hilarious Icarus gag and a budget-cut economy flight that any working journalist will recognize — but the storytelling is inconsistent, the supporting characters bland, and the A-lister cameos underused.
