Anupama Chopra reviews The Devil Wears Prada 2, the long-awaited sequel that brings Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci back as Miranda, Andy, Emily, and Nigel — twenty years after Andy first walked away from Runway magazine. Director David Frankel returns alongside writer Aline Brosh McKenna, cinematographer Florian Ballhaus, and costume designer Molly Rogers. New additions include Simone Ashley as Amari (exquisite but with little to do), Justin Theroux as a Jeff Bezos-style tech mogul named Benji, Kenneth Branagh, Lucy Liu, and a cameo from Lady Gaga.

Anupama unpacks why the sequel is alluring and forgettable at once — sufficiently seductive but unable to recreate the ineffable magic of the original. She finds sparkling moments in Emily Blunt's flinty, funny turn and a quietly devastating Meryl Streep scene about the cost of a career that women love, but no monologue here matches the iconic Cerulean blue sweater speech. The film makes pointed observations about a media landscape sidelined by virality and tech moguls — including a hilarious Icarus gag and a budget-cut economy flight that any working journalist will recognize — but the storytelling is inconsistent, the supporting characters bland, and the A-lister cameos underused. Anupama is, however, team Miranda for life. Watch the full review for the THR India bottomline.
