The makers of Bandar on Thursday unveiled the teaser of the upcoming Anurag Kashyap directorial, starring Bobby Deol, Sanya Malhotra, Raj B Shetty, Sapna Pabbi, Saba Azad, Riddhi Sen, Jitendra Joshi, Indrajeet and Nagesh Bhonsle.
Written by Sudip Sharma and Abhishek Banerjee, the duo known for projects such as Paatal Lok, Kohrra and Udta Punjab, the film appears to blend dark humour, madness and mystery.
In Bandar (Monkey In A Cage), Deol plays a fading television star named Sabar who is accused of rape by his ex-girlfriend and taken into judicial custody.
The film had its world premiere at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival in 2025, where it screened in the Special Presentation category. This is the first time Deol has collaborated with Kashyap as a director. The Gangs of Wasseypur maker had written the dialogue for Shakalaka Boom Boom, a musical drama released in 2007 and starring Deol and Upen Patel.
“I never imagined a film of mine will go to a festival,” Deol said at the premiere of Bandar. “I enjoyed every moment of working on this film. It had been my desire for many years to collaborate with the great Anurag Kashyap. Finally he thought of something, and my producer, Nikhil Dwivedi, made it happen.”
One of the teaser’s standout moments features Bobby Deol in a flamboyant disco-era look, dancing to a reimagined version of the classic ’70s track Come On Baby Dil Kisko Degi. The sequence has already generated significant attention online, particularly following the actor’s performance in Animal.
While the teaser begins on an energetic note, it gradually takes a darker turn, hinting at a larger and more complicated story beneath the madness. As the visuals become more intense, Kashyap’s signature storytelling style, marked by gritty imagery, layered characters and escalating tension, becomes increasingly evident.
Apart from Bobby Deol and Sanya Malhotra, the film also features Raj B Shetty, Sapna Pabbi, Saba Azad, Riddhi Sen, Jitendra Joshi, Indrajeet and Nagesh Bhonsle in key roles.
Bandar is directed by Anurag Kashyap and produced by Nikhil Dwivedi under the banner of Saffron Magicworks. The film is backed by Zee Studios and is scheduled to release in cinemas worldwide on June 5, 2026.
Kashyap’s last film, Kennedy, starring Rahul Bhatt and Sunny Leone, released on ZEE5 after a 3-year wait. The film had premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in the Midnight Madness sidebar in 2023.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Kashyap revealed he has written two new scripts for himself and would likely go on floors with both in 2026.
