Vijay Television has launched Big Boss Common Man, a Tamil reality spin-off of Bigg Boss that opens the franchise to non-celebrity contestants. Hosted by former Bigg Boss 7 runner-up Maya S Krishnan and judged by Raju Jeyamohan and Aari Arujunan, the show adapts Telugu’s Bigg Boss Agnipariksha as a digital pre-show to screen commoners for entry into the Bigg Boss Tamil house.
On Monday, the Tamil entertainment channel Vijay Television announced their new reality show, Big Boss: The Common Man, as part of the Bigg Boss world.
This development confirms an announcement made by actor Vijay Sethupathi in June this year, revealing that show will now invite commoners as contestants too. Scheduled to premiere on August 16, the show's winner will be eligible to compete in Bigg Boss Tamil season 10, hosted by Sethupathi.
Vijay Television made the announcement with an Instagram post featuring former Bigg Boss contestant Maya S Krishnan, who will be hosting Big Boss: The Common Man, along with Raju Jeyamohan, Aari Arujunan and Oviya.
Krishnan was a contestant in Bigg Boss Tamil 7 and emerged as the second runner-up. In this show, she will be joined by Oviya, Jeyamohan and Arjunan, her co-contestants from previous seasons.
The reality game show is said to be an adaptation of the Telugu spin-off Bigg Boss Agnipariksha, which was used as a digital pre-show platform for selecting non-celebrity competitors. For contestants to be admitted into the Bigg Boss Tamil house, they have to successfully complete a range of assessments, challenges and screening rounds.
Oviya, Jeyamohan and Arjunan have all had prominent presence in the Bigg Boss series. Oviya participated in the first season of Bigg Boss Tamil. Though she left the show on its 42nd day due to her mental health struggles, she gained a considerable fan following.
Apart from his return as the host for Bigg Boss season 10, Sethupathi will also be making back-to-back appearances on the big screen. His upcoming releases include Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi upcoming film, Mysskin's Train and the Telugu film SlumDog- 33 Temple Road.
