Romantic drama Chand Mera Dil, starring Ananya Panday and Lakshya and backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, has opened to an underwhelming global weekend of about ₹14.73 crore. With India nett collections of roughly ₹11.10 crore over three days, the film has shown only minimal day-on-day growth.
Actors Ananya Panday and Lakshya's fiery onscreen romance hasn't translated into fireworks at the box office, as Chand Mera Dil wrapped an underwhelming opening weekend. Backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the romantic drama started its theatrical run on a muted note on Friday and showed minimal growth over the next two days.
In the Hindi belt, the romantic drama faces minimal immediate competition as the previous week's holdover release, Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, has fizzled at the box-office.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Chand Mera Dil kicked off its domestic box office run with an opening day net of ₹3 crore on Friday.
The film witnessed a muted trajectory on day two, pocketing ₹3.65 crore on Saturday. It recorded its best single-day performance on Sunday, netting ₹4.35 crore to wrap its opening weekend with a domestic net total of ₹11.10 crore. In terms of worldwide gross, the film stands at ₹14.73 crore.
Looking ahead, Chand Mera Dil could benefit from a slight mid-week cushioning due to the upcoming Bakrid holiday. The project is set to enjoy a relatively clear two-week window until June 5, which marks the arrival of the next major Hindi release: David Dhawan’s Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai.
The star-studded romantic comedy is headlined by Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde, and Mrunal Thakur. The same high-stakes weekend will also witness a massive pan-India clash with the worldwide release of the Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor starrer, Peddi.
Chand Mera Dil is directed by Vivek Soni, who made his directorial debut with Meenakshi Sundareshwar, starring Sanya Malhotra and Abhimanyu Dasani, and followed it up with last year's Aap Jaisa Koi, led by R Madhavan and Fatima Sana Shaikh. While his last two films were Netflix outings, this is Soni's first theatrical release.
Panday was last seen in Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri opposite Kartik Aaryan. Lakshya, meanwhile, made his acting debut in the violent actioner Kill. Both films were backed by Karan Johar.
