Killer was announced early last year. SJ Suryah will return to direction after a decade of being busy as an actor with this film. It will be produced by Malayalam production house Sree Gokulam Movies along with SJ Suryah’s Angel Studios. Suryah's last directorial was Isai in 2015.

Talking about Killer, Suryah had earlier revealed that it would be a romantic-action comedy, "If a James Bond film and my own Kushi are blended together, the result would be Killer..," said the star, who also added that the film would be shot both in India and overseas.

The upcoming film will have music by AR Rahman. This will also be Suryah’s third film with Rahman after New (2004) and Anbe Aaruyire (2005).
