Dhanush’s new Tamil film, tentatively titled ‘D56’, has begun shooting in Madurai, targeting a Summer 2027 release. Directed by Tamizharasan Pachamuthu and produced by Sithara Entertainment, it co-stars Preity Mukhundhan and SJ Suryah. The project marks Dhanush’s first collaboration with comedy legend Vadivelu, who praised the script and clarified that the film is not political.
Dhanush's upcoming Tamil film, tentatively titled 'D56 ', went on floors on September 25 in Madurai. The film, which is aiming for a Summer 2027 release, will co-star Preity Mukhundhan in the lead and will also mark Dhanush's first collaboration with legendary Tamil film comedian Vadivelu.
Produced by Sithara Entertainment, the upcoming film will have music by Sai Abhyankkar, who was also present at the launch pooja. The film is directed by Lubber Pandhu filmmaker Tamizharasan Pachamuthu.
The movie will co-star SJ Suryah in an important role. Addressing the crowd at the launch event, Vadivelu spoke about his association with Dhanush. "After a long gap I got an opportunity to work with #Dhanush sir with #D56. You might ask why there is so much gap that we didn't collaborate, it's because of some misunderstanding between us done by another third person," he said, noting that the film is not a political film. "It's very different film. I was very proud and surprised after hearing the narration. It will become a huge hit."
Meanwhile, Dhanush announced on September 23 that OM: Chapter One — Udhiram: The Blood Wood will not release on its previously planned date of October 16, and will also not release during the Diwali window.
The announcement was shared through a post on X, wherein Dhanush said they are delaying the release out of respect for Rajinikanth, whose Jailer 2 is scheduled for a October 15 release. The actor and director added that the film will not open in the Diwali window either, out of fairness toward Suriya, whose film Scene has already been announced for the Diwali date. The post concluded confirming that a new release date will be announced shortly.
OM is written and directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, who previously directed Amaran (2024). This project is his first collaboration with Dhanush. The film’s cast includes Mammootty, Sai Pallavi, and Sreeleela.
Music for the film is by Sai Abhyankkar, who recently worked on RJ Balaji's Karuppu. The cinematography by Ezhil Arasu, editing by Kalaivanan R and costumes by Kavya Sriram. The film is produced by Wunderbar Films in association with RTake Studios
