Actor Ansiba Hassan, who was last seen playing a central character in Mohanlal’s hit Drishyam 3, announced recently that she has quit the A.M.M.A or Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes as its joint secretary. The association is being led by actor Shwetha Menon, elected as its first female president in August, 2025. According to a report in The Hindu, Hassan resigned after she was subjected to “character assassination attempts” by fellow members, including remarks with a communal nature that targeted her. She had also been vocal about statements made by actor Tiny Tom.
Stating that at she did not wish to press legal charges, Hassan alleged that she was being accused of attempting religious conversion, with members spreading rumours about her personal life. She also said that it was one of the other members that had informed her about what was being said about her. She went on to allege that she wasn’t being treated fairly by other women members of the committee.
Last year, in a historic move, the powerful actors’ body A.M.M.A (Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes) voted in a woman as president for the first time since its inception. On August 15, Shwetha Menon became the first woman to lead the influential actors’ body, which was formed in 1994. The date also marked exactly 35 years since her own acting debut, in the film Anaswaram alongside Mammootty. Joining her in leadership was Kukku Parameswaran, elected as the organisation’s first female General Secretary.
In an interview to THR India, Menon had spoken about her agenda as president. She had said, “If I can survive the next three years without any major glitches, I’ll consider that half the job done. I’m not here to rewrite history; that’s not my agenda. There will always be people trying to pull you down, and honestly, there’s not much you can do about that.”
