Shraddha Kapoor’s period drama Eetha, directed by Laxman Utekar, has locked a new release date of December 4 after being shifted from August 28 to avoid a clash with Yash’s Toxic. Produced by Maddock Films, the biopic follows Marathi folk legend Vithabai Narayangaonkar, highlighting her Lavani and Tamasha legacy, with music by Ajay-Atul and co-stars Randeep Hooda and Anant Joshi.
After a major schedule change, the makers of Laxman Utekar's period-drama Eetha, starring Shraddha Kapoor, have unveiled that the film will now release on December 4.
On August 11, the production house behind the film, Maddock Films, announced the new release date on an instagram post.
Eetha was previously scheduled to release on August 28, but the makers shifted this date to avoid clashes with another major project on the horizon: Yash's Toxic, which was also set to release on the Raksha Bandhan weekend.
With this change of dates, Eetha's release window now coincides with director Anees Bazmee's upcoming , yet-untitled comedy starring Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan. Earlier this year, the premiere of Eetha's teaser coincided with the premiere of Cocktail 2, as both were screened together in theaters.
In the film, Kapoor stars as Marathi folk artist Vithabai Narayangaonkar, along with Randeep Hooda and Anant Joshi in prominent roles. Kapoor's last appearance on the big screen was in the horror-comedy Stree 2 in 2024.
Eetha's teaser dropped last month, on June 23, and revealed Kapoor in this new persona. It offered a glimpse of the emotionally charged and powerful world Utekar has created to narrate the artist's story and created considerable social media buzz around Kapoor's physical transformation.
The film will celebrate Narayangaonkar for her iconic Lavani and Tamasha performances, that not only transcended time and generations, but also led her to be honoured by the President of India in 1957 and 1990 for her monumental contributions to India’s folk theatre tradition.
Eetha is produced by Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films, along with Laxman Utekar and Karishma Sharma, and features music by the musical duo Ajay-Atul.
